Institute Receives $2500 Grant From TargetŪ to Launch Children in the Middle, A Divorce Education Program for Parents

Lakewood, NJ -----  The Institute for Prevention (IFP), an affiliate of Barnabas Health Behavioral Health Network, today announced a partnership with Target® in recognition of its efforts in prevention programming. The Target Foundation has awarded IFP a grant for $2500 to implement “Children in the Middle: Divorce Education for Parents” a skills-based, educational intervention program for parents going through separation and/or divorce. The grant will be used to launch the program throughout the state of New Jersey.

Through its partnership with Target®, IFP is able to offer a FREE two-day training of Children in the Middle on February 9 & 16, 2009, from 6-8:30 pm at Kimball Medical Center, 600 River Avenue, Lakewood.

Children in the Middle has been identified as a model evidence-based program by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.  The only divorce education program so designated, CIM has been nationally endorsed by judges, lawyers, mediators, psychologists and teachers.  Developed in 1992 by a clinical child psychologist/family therapist and a professor of psychology, the program was designed to benefit children 3 to 15 years of age who are subjected to adult conflicts during a divorce or separation.

“We are delighted to get this recognition from Target,” said Connie Greene, Vice President, Institute for Prevention, Barnabas Health Behavioral Health Network. As the premier prevention agency in the state of New Jersey, we are always striving to enhance and expand our programming.“
