Project Connect

Project ConnectProject Connect provides family support services to families with children age 6-11. The focus is on improving family organization and resiliency, that will result in improved children's academic performance through parental support of the child. The project serves 16 families from Monmouth County annually by providing parent skills training, child social skills training, family communication and organization and limited case management to support parents as they build skills for increased social independence. The central intervention for all families is the national substance abuse prevention model program, Strengthening Families Program.

The Strengthening Families Program (SFP) is a nationally and internationally recognized parenting and family-strengthening program for high-risk families. SFP is an evidence-based family skills training program found to significantly reduce problem behaviors, delinquency, and alcohol and drug abuse in children and to improve social competencies and school performance. Families will meet weekly for 14 weeks, where they will enjoy weekly dinners, parent and youth skill training, family training, incentives, certificates of completion, and a graduation reception. The goal of the program is to teach families the skills to live drug-free, productive life-styles by using the strength their families already possess.

On-going case management will also be provided both during the 14-weeks and after for those families in need of additional services to support self reliance and reduce the barriers that place them and their children at risk for substance abuse and low academic performance.
