Project DART is designed to reduce the harmful consequences of alcohol
and drug use among18-25 year olds living in northern
Ocean County. The
strategy of the grant will be to effect environmental
changes by addressing policies, laws, ordinances and social norms. The
strategy will be determined based on identified patterns and consequences
of alcohol and drug use among those living in northern Ocean County
communities. Existing
data and data we gather through focus groups, expert
interviews, and surveys will be the epidemiological data that guides
the process of determining the environmental strategy.
The Institute
for Prevention (IFP) is working with a Community
Advisory Panel (CAP), consisting of treatment and
social service agencies, school personnel, local businesses, clergy,
government representatives, municipal alliances, hospitals, and law
enforcement professionals. IFP will lead the effort with the CAP
to assess prevention needs, examine community capacity, develop a strategic plan,
implement an environmental prevention strategy, and measure the effectiveness
of our strategy.
Funding is provided by the New Jersey Department of Human
Services, Division of Addiction Services through
the Strategic Prevention Framework State Incentive
Grant (SPF-SIG).
