Smoke Free Initiative

Clean Air for Health Care

All Barnabas Health Campuses Are Smoke Free

For Employees

On November 19, 2009, the northern region of Barnabas Health became smoke-free—following the lead of our southern counterparts, who became smoke-free last November. This event coincided with the American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout.

This initiative included Clara Maass Medical Center, Livingston Services, Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, Barnabas Health Ambulatory Care Center, Barnabas Health Corporate Center, Barnabas Health Hospice and Palliative Care Center, Barnabas Health Medical Center, Barnabas Health Outpatient Centers and all Barnabas Health facilities and property in northern New Jersey.

Smoking is one of the top four causes of death. As the largest healthcare system in the state of New Jersey, it is our responsibility to provide a healthy environment for our employees, patients and visitors, and to protect them from the harmful effects of tobacco. By creating a smoke-free environment, we are discouraging the use of tobacco products, eliminating secondhand smoke in our entryways and preventing it from coming through our windows, doors and ventilation systems.

Tobacco dependency treatment programs are available for interested employees at a discounted rate. For more information about such programs, please call Barnabas Health Institute for Prevention at 973-926-7978 or 732-886-4149 or visit www.instituteforprevention.com.
