Helene has been working with children and families for the past 20 years in her capacity as a social worker and prevention specialist. She worked with the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services as a case manager for six years before coming to Community Medical Center’s Center for Kids & Family in 1992. At Kids & Family, Helene worked as a social work advisor and was responsible for developing and administering family programs such as a Mother Support Group, Parenting Classes, Parent’s Anonymous groups, Safe Sitter classes and Violence Prevention Programs for adjudicated juveniles in Ocean County.
Presently, Helene provides group and individual counseling to tobacco dependent youth and adults in Monmouth and Ocean counties, as a tobacco dependence treatment specialist. In addition to running the Quitcenter at Saint Barnabas Behavioral Health in Toms River, she coordinates the TIPS (Tobacco Intervention and Prevention in Schools) in the Toms River Regional School’s six middle and high schools with funding provided through a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Helene also coordinates and supervises the Strengthening Families Program in Ocean County. The Strengthening Families Program is a 14-week free program offered to parents and their children and funded through the NJ Department of Human Services, Division of Addiction Services.
